This document sets out the government's proposals to help more disabled people and people with health conditions to start, stay and succeed in work.
The actions explained in the White Paper aim to improve support to enable disabled people to live more independently, including through better access to the labour market to start, stay and succeed in work. It is the result of responses received to the Health and Disability Green Paper, published in July 2021.
The plans for change put forward are:
Transforming improve support to enable disabled people to live more independently, including through better access to the labour market to start, stay and succeed in work.
Improving employment support for disabled people and people with health conditions, investing to help people start, stay and succeed in work.
Improving the overall experience of the benefits system for disabled people, making it easier for people to access the right support and improving trust and transparency in our decisions and processes.
The government says it will develop a new Disability Action Plan in 2023, which will set out the practical action it plans to take across government – beyond the health and disability benefits system. A full public consultation is planned for later this year.
